Advocacy - Social and Political Goals
What are we really FOR? Presentation and discussion on the frontiers of LGBTI and full human inclusion in our world. The perspective of this workshop will be of social-change as the protagonist of later official and political recognition. Electoral politics and officials can be utilized along with many direct actions for the achievement of our goals. These goals include local legal initiatives, methods to combat Christian exclusion, and direct support for those maligned by society, churches, and global humanity.
Gay Liberation Network is a direct action group that promotes the rights and liberation of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex people. GLN was formed in 1998 as a response to gay bashings in Boystown.
We do not take a narrow "gay rights only" approach to winning freedom, but work on multiple issues, including immigrant & refugee rights, police brutality, anti-war, labor organizing and more. Following our slogan, "An Attack on One is an Attack on ALL," we extend solidarity to all other groups facing many of the same problems of violence, discriminatory legislation, and social service cutbacks as we face in the LGBT community. Only by actively extending solidarity to all facing hate and discrimination are we ourselves worthy of receiving such solidarity.
